What is Zabiha Halal?

Zabiha refers to the specific scholarly-mandated method of ritual
slaughter. It is not merely a label, but a commitment to the ethical
and spiritual integrity
of the animal’s life and the consumer’s
health.

"Eat of that over which the name of Allah has been pronounced, if you are believers in His revelations."

If they have not been slaughtered as per the rules of Zabiha, that meat cannot be called “Halāl”. It would be considered as “maitah (Carrion)” which is equally haram as pork.

There is no difference of Zabiha & Halal in the Quran, Sunnah or any other Fiqh text.

There is NO DIFFERENCE between HALAL and ZABIHA HALAL. Zabiha is required to consider meat Halal.

Muslim Slaughterer

The act must be performed by a sane, practicing Muslim who understands the ritual significance.

Tasmiyah (Invoking Allah's Name)

Explicit oral pronouncement of 'Bismillah' at the time of slaughter for each individual animal.

Proper Incision

Severing the trachea, esophagus, and both jugular veins with a swift, sharp movement to minimize pain.

Why is Zabiha Halal certification necessary in the USA?

In non-Muslim majority countries, the Halal market lacks substantial regulation. Since non-Halal meat is cheaper and more abundant, there is a high risk of “Halal” labels being used deceptively. Certification ensures that the meat you pay a premium for is authentically slaughtered and handled.

Meat often passes through slaughterhouses, processors, and distributors before reaching you. HMS monitors every single link in this chain. If one link is unmonitored, the final product cannot be certified, preventing Haram meat from entering the “Halal” supply.

We certify only meat that is hand-slaughtered by Muslims; we never certify machine-slaughtered meat. Unlike others who may only issue a one-time certificate, we are with the product every step of the way, providing constant oversight from slaughterhouse to plate.

Yes. A certificate only proves a business was compliant at one point in time. HMS conducts regular, random surprise inspections of inventory, invoices, and premises throughout the year to ensure standards never slip.

It means an independent team of qualified Ulama (scholars) regularly monitors the business. The owner has signed a contract allowing random inspections to prove they are not mixing hand-slaughtered Zabiha with machine-slaughtered or non-Halal products.

No. Certification is absolutely free of cost. Our work is a community service dedicated solely to the benefit of Muslim consumers and the integrity of our faith.

We aim for every Halal provider in the USA to be independently monitored. We believe every “Halal” sign should disclose whether the meat is hand-slaughtered or mechanical, ensuring no Muslim is ever deceived about what they eat.

You are the “King of the Market.” You can help by demanding that your local restaurants and grocers apply for this free certification. Awareness and consumer demand are the most powerful tools to ensure honesty in the Halal industry.

While businesses must be honest, it is the obligation of the Muslim consumer to seek verification. Seeing a label is not enough; we must ensure our food is monitored by qualified experts to fulfill our religious requirements.
